Late April News

Last minute change of plans! We will now be open for in-person shopping at Cate Farm starting Saturday May 8th, a week earlier than originally planned.  Fridays will be the day for curbside pickups of online orders, and Saturdays will be for in-person shopping.

On May 1st our online ordering will begin, for Friday May 7th curbside pick up! We will list what plants are ready now, and fear not, we have many many many succession plantings for continued supply through early June. If a certain variety is out of stock, check back the following Monday morning. From May 6th until early June, online ordering will be only available from Monday 9 am until Thursday noon, for that Friday's pickup. See our website for all the details: www.catefarm.com .

Our excellent crew is hard at work getting everything ready for our plant sales. Four of our greenhouses are overflowing with flats of seedlings, and 3 greenhouses are cranking with  greens for bunching and tomatoes. Find our bunched greens and seedlings now at Hunger Mt. Co-op in Montpelier, or AR Market on Main Street in Barre.

The soil block trials are going well; we have a wide range of plants started in 1.5" blocks, and we'll sell all blocks for $1 each. The soil block machine from the Netherlands will be on display in case you are curious about how it works. The Fertil wood fiber pot trials are also doing great, these and the soil blocks will be for available at the in-person Saturday sales.  Both blocks and fiber pots are plastic free, and roots naturally air prune which prevent root circling, making transplanting a snap.  Your feedback is appreciated as always.

We look forward to seeing you soon!

All the best from Sally, Richard, Flint and the Team at Cate Farm.

It’s April!

We can’t complain too much about April’s frosty start knowing that it will not be that way for too long. We also have the pleasure of working in a warm greenhouse packed with vibrant green seedlings that fill the air with moisture and oxygen.

In other unheated greenhouses, greens are almost ready to pick. Find our fresh bunched cilantro, arugula, dill, beet greens and mizuna soon at Hunger Mt. Co-op in Montpelier. How delicious to eat Spring greens!

Plant Sales are getting closer- beginning May 1st you’ll be able to order seedlings ONLINE for curbside pickup May 7, 14, 21, 28, and June 4. And we’ll be open for in-person sales at Cate Farm Saturdays May 8, 15, 22, 29, and June 5. Please visit www.catefarm.com for the latest info.

How time flies, Cate Farm is celebrating 40 years of farming! Thanks to everyone for your support over the years. That means someone must be getting on in years:) Check out a young Richard on his pedal powered invention to pick cucumbers from the 1980s, it even got featured in The Whole Earth Catalog. Cate Farm used to grow an acre of pickling cukes for processing back in the day; that’s a lot of cucumbers!

  Enjoy the Spring weather
